Sirius XM Story 

SiriusXM Holdings Inc. is an American broadcasting company that provides satellite radio and online radio services operating in the United States. The company was formed in 2008 by the merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, making it SiriusXM. It also has a 70% equity interest in Sirius XM Canada which is an affiliate company providing Sirius and XM services in Canada. 

In 2013, SiriusXM Holdings, Inc. was incorporated and in 2020, SiriusXM reorganized its corporate structure. It made Sirius radio Inc. a direct, wholly-owned subsidiary of Sirius XM Holdings, Inc. The merger of XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio was approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission in 2008, 17 months after its proposal. 

It is one of the leading audio entertainment companies in North America offering unique programming and content across the company’s subscriptions. The main platforms of the company include SiriusXM satellite and streaming audio, Pandora, Stitcher, and Simplecast.

Controversies 

SiriusXM has been involved in some controversies including some high-profile class action lawsuits. In 2011, the Court approved a class action settlement when a federal judge approved a USD180 million class action lawsuit settlement with SiriusXM Satellite Radio accusing the company of breaking the law by raising subscription rates following its 2008 merger. 

In another lawsuit settlement, the company paid around USD99 million to settle a class action lawsuit filed by The Turtles. The company was accused of broadcasting songs recorded before 1972 with no compensating labels or artists.
