The Raytheon Technologies Story

Raytheon Technologies is the union of two companies—Raytheon and United Technologies, which finalized their merger in April 2020. Raytheon is a U.S. military defence contractor, specializing in weapons manufacturing and military-grade electronics. United Technologies is also known as a U.S. military defence contractor— but only around 12% of its revenue in 2017 comes from them; a contrast with Raytheon where nearly 90% of its revenue is generated by their U.S. military contracts. Instead, United Technologies is more well-known for manufacturing the following: aircraft, elevators, and HVAC systems.

After their merger, Raytheon Technologies’ main business services became focused on these three sectors: aviation, defence, and space.

Culture & Vibe

Working at Raytheon Technologies allows you to get an inside look into what it takes to build some of the world's best products in aerospace and weapons manufacturing. Since Raytheon Technologies prides itself in being an innovative company, it also offers a wide variety of learning opportunities, both inside and outside of the company.

However, due to the nature of its business, some level of confidentiality is expected from the company’s employees regarding the work that Raytheon Technologies does.

Career Prospects

Raytheon Technologies offers great opportunities for recent college graduates through a program called Leadership Development Programs. Nine possible career pathways that you can choose: Business Development, Global Communications, Contracts, Digital, Engineering, Finance, Global Trade, Human Resources, and Operations and Supply Chain.

While the majority of these career tracks accept applications from Bachelor’s degree graduates, some, like Human Resources and Business Development, require at least a Master’s degree. They also have a minimum GPA requirement (3.20) and some career tracks prefer applicants with prior internship experiences.

To fulfil the said requirement, you can also apply as an intern at Raytheon Technologies. Most internship positions are open in the summer, and more roles are available for those pursuing an engineering degree. A unique aspect of an internship in Raytheon Technologies is that an intern position is divided into several internship levels, depending on how many credit hours you have studied in university and what type of degree you are pursuing.

Recruitment Process

There’s one important thing that you should know about who Raytheon Technologies hires. Since defence manufacturing is one of the company’s primary business services, most of the roles available, especially those for students and recent college graduates, are limited only to those who have U.S. citizenship. A certain level of clearance will also be needed, and getting them will require you to undergo extensive background checks.

Aside from that, Raytheon Technologies’ hiring process is not that different from most major American corporations: The company sometimes does campus hiring but also accepts online applications through its official website. And the process you’ll get through is roughly the same—a series of interviews; with HR and your future team leader and members, and if you pass, they’ll contact you with an offer.

Remuneration & Benefits

An intern working in Raytheon Technologies can expect to make around $40,000-$80,000 per year, depending on your division. If you join Raytheon Technologies as one of its Leadership Development Program Associates, you’ll receive a compensation rate in the range of $50,000-$120,000, depending on your role and experience.

Other benefits that you get from working in Raytheon Technologies are the following: tuition reimbursement, flexible work arrangements, and relocation assistance.
