The MTV story

In August 1981, Mtv became mainstream, airing The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star” as its first video. They also placed entertainment news in between videos at the time. Their unique approach to satisfying their large cultural audience made them popular in many parts of the world.

In subsequent years after its founding, MTV continued to branch into genres airing superstars like Michael Jackson and Madonna. Up till 1985, the company primed itself on its identity of entertaining motion pictures to match revolutionary music.

In 1985, MTV Network, the parent company of MTV was purchased and music was classed into different genres and tv shows were also introduced into broadcasting. Reality shows, cartoons, and other videographic entertainment forms were introduced.

In 1984 and 1998, MTV introduced music awards and lineups of the best entertainment music and videos of the week.

The turn of the 21st century saw Mtv add new aspects to its entertainment venture notably introducing music and video streaming services in 2007. To date, MTV continues to improve its entertainment strategy, effectively operating in more than 100 countries and providing over 400 million families with premium entertainment.

Culture and vibes

Running from music to videos, MTV has played a critical role in helping to define proper entertainment. To continually evolve in unison, complement each other, and work as a family, Mtv upholds values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

These values act as a baseline for every other principle the company adopts and fosters creativity in every part of the company. At MTV, every employee respects these communal values and retains respect and understanding for each other through the creative process.

Everyone at the company has a voice and thanks to these accommodative values, they have become a haven for young creatives. Blessed with employees young at heart, the vibe in Mtv is friendly and enjoyable. While it is quite fast-paced, employees soon enjoy the creative process and make every day an opportunity to define entertainment.

Recruitment process

MTV embraces diversity hence they enjoy a diverse pool of graduate and internship talents to work with in their recruitment process. The recruitment process for graduates and interns begins with an online application after studying job vacancies on the company’s website.

After identifying roles that best suit their skill set, graduate and internship applicants are required to submit an impressive cover letter. They are also required to submit a resume that best highlights their top skills for the role.

The first round of selection is done here and applicants who impress the recruitment team are invited for a series of interviews. Depending on how impressive candidates are, they may partake in more than one interview.

After completing the interview series, graduate and internship applicants are then required to take assessment tests that help the team evaluate their competency in the applied role.

After this stage, selected graduate or internship candidates are offered employment in the company and onboarded into their chosen roles and into the work culture.
