About National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration and it is responsible for science and technology related to the solar system. The agency was established in 1958 to give the US space development a specialized place to research the Solar System. NASA succeeded the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) which began in 1946.

Your role

This internship will involve analyses and problem-solving related to the on-orbit operation of the SAGE III ISS mission. The student will work on atmospheric science retrievals from the on-orbit instrument including challenging work involving instrument characterization, attitude determination problems, ISS mission con ops, and data analysis. Work could aid in the development of the SAGE IV Pathfinder mission. The student will produce research-quality analyses and analysis software and will be expected to work in a team environment to produce systems engineering reports and white papers on the work.

Training, development & rotations

We strategically hire our interns based on long-term potential and alignment with NASA’s future workforce needs. Specializing in multi-semester experiences, the Internship Program prepares you for a career at NASA and offers a direct pipeline to full-time employment at NASA upon graduation. As an intern, you are assigned challenging, meaningful work aligned with your academic or career interests, providing you with lifelong learning and growth opportunities, and cultivating a supportive community that offers you a home away from home.

Compensation & benefits

The estimated total pay for an intern at NASA is $32.00 per hour. As an employee, you will also receive the following benefits:

Career progression

Throughout your Internship, you’re given the autonomy to define your own career trajectory at NASA. At the beginning of your internship, we will work with you to develop an “Individual Development Plan” that will help put your experience and path in your hands by defining assignments, training events, and learning opportunities that will help you achieve your career goals. As you get closer to graduation, we will evaluate your experience and consider you for full-time employment that would begin after you complete your degree.
