Job Description

At Microsoft Research, we aim to do fundamental research, write papers at the top-tier conference, and also take these innovations to the real world. The project is likely to lead to publications at top-tier venues in networking and systems.

Responsibilities

  • During the 12-week internship, students work closely with mentors and sometimes collaborate with other interns and researchers as well.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.  
  • Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.
  • You’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop original research ideas.
  • Strong programming skills (C++ / Python).
  • Knowledge of congestion control techniques and transport layer protocols – various flavors of TCP, UDP, WebRTC, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with Reinforcement Learning techniques.
  • Experience and ability with modifying and testing various transport protocols.
  • Understanding and experience of real-time streaming for the video.
  • Experience with simulators such as NS2.
