Your Role

Microsoft is looking for a computer science intern to explore unanswered questions that could lead to substantial improvements in how health and life sciences researchers do their work and collaborate with each other.

Microsoft envisions various interesting research projects. To name a few broad areas of interest: 

• Increasing research velocity in interactive notebook environments. 
• Understanding data provenance/lineage in computational biology to improve confidence, reproducibility, and reusability of research.
• Combining, querying, and using data from different sources, with different rules, and different formats.
• Maximizing data collaboration in low-trust scenarios.
• Enhancing data discovery in the context of dynamic data generation.

Salary & Benefits

Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonuses and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles can earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role. The salary for this role ranges from approximately $100,000 to $153,000. US-based employees gain access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and fitness benefits.

About You

• Must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.

Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Have demonstrated proficiency through one or more publications at relevant venues.
• Experience (and/or interest) in health and/or life sciences research.
• Have strong programming skills.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate across disciplines as part of a cross-functional team.
• Have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent research.
