Your role

The Program:

HP's future success depends on the innovation and fresh ideas students bring to HP Inc. They are hiring students with diverse skills and experiences to join them across the different organizations that make them HP Inc. Their intern program is intended to enhance your overall learning experience, allow you to make an impact, have some fun, and meet great people along the way.

Join them for a 12-week paid Summer 2024 Internship designed to let you apply your classroom learnings to real-world challenges.  Their internships have a thoughtful balance of networking, executive speakers, community involvement, big meaty projects (no paper filing here!), and fun!

The Team:

The Personal Systems organization creates a full ecosystem of digital experiences through advancing leadership in computing, creating immersive experiences through peripherals, and expanding digital services.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize advanced concepts and ideas, new ways to do things new products new form factors new experiences
  • Communicate your ideas through sketching, storyboarding, and creating models
  • Collaborate with human factors, R&D, procurement, product management, marketing and manufacturing
  • Connect concepts to HP’s portfolio, the users, the business, and the markets
  • Design to anticipate global macro trends, emerging technologies
  • Identify user needs & opportunities
  • Safe-guard patentable inventions by documenting them visually and with well-written supporting narrative, and submitting these as patent disclosures on behalf of HP Inc.
  • Be a great storyteller, tell exciting stories that inspire
  • Trace new paths towards innovation & design excellence for HP Inc.

Training & development

About you

Education and Experience Required:

  • 2nd or 3rd Year of Bachelor's degree completed, 1st year of Master's program completed or Ph.D. candidate.–typically a technical degree specialization.
  • Must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university.

Preferred Majors/Programs:  

  • Industrial Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Human Factors or Human-Computer Interaction
  • UX/UI Design
  • Render and Animation

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • A keen eye for detail, and good taste.
  • Good understanding of design principles and theories.
  • Good sketching & visualization skills (on paper, on screen using a Wacom tablet)
  • Good presentation skills – strong ability to communicate through sketches and renders.
  • Good balance of aesthetic sensitivity & mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to analyze / research / identify and solve problems.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills (mastery in the English language preferred)
  • Good MS Office skills (PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Fluent in 2D drawing software (Illustrator preferred)
  • Fluent in 3D CAD surfacing (Solid Works preferred; ProE, Rhino, Alias acceptable)
  • Fluent in Photoreal editing (Photoshop preferred)
  • Fluent in ID rendering (Keyshot preferred)
  • Open mind/thirst to learn / passion to explore new things is of crucial importance.
  • Openness to receiving design feedback, and to being challenged to go above & beyond.
  • Team player attitude, self-motivation, professionalism, organizational & interpersonal skills.
  • Fabrication processes (injection moulding, stamping, casting, machining, etc.)
  • Surface treatments (paint, anodize, vacuum metallization, powder coating, etc.)
  • Application of materials in design (fabrics, organic materials, plastics, metals, etc.)
  • Creating dynamic product animations is a great plus (Keyshot preferred)
  • Creating and editing videos is a great plus (Premiere and/or After Effects preferred)
