About Collins Aerospace

Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, designs and manufactures parts for airplanes, helicopters, and defense systems. The  Avionics team advances flight deck solutions, airborne communications, vision systems, sensors, and fire protection for commercial and military customers around the world.

Your role

This position is for an Industrial Engineer Co-op at the Cedar Rapids, IA facility supporting the site.  If selected, the employee will become familiar with Collins Aerospace products, and manufacturing objectives, along with state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques by working closely with senior engineers on automation and process improvement projects for cost reduction. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, and will run from May/June through December; it is only eligible for current students with a graduation date past December 2024.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist senior Industrial Engineers in a manufacturing environment in these primary areas:

  • Automation/robotics.
  • Process simulation & capacity analysis.
  • Process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA).
  • Data analysis and visualization.
  • Station loading/line balancing.

Other areas of responsibility may include:

  • Technical problem definition and solution.  
  • Manufacturability improvements to processes and products.
  • Conduct studies about cost control, cost reduction, and inventory control through the application of Lean Six Sigma principles. 
  • Determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow and establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
  • Calculate and prepare cost estimates and return on investments for proposed projects. 
  • Improve facility layout for manufacturing processes and equipment, considering economic factors, process flow, operator efficiency, and comfort. 
  • Develop tools that aid process improvement or address safety concerns.   
  • Resource planning based on sales demand.

About you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
